Back in November 2011, Hitachi Capital (UK) began the process of equipping 400 DHL Express vans with the latest telematics technology.

By having their vehicles fitted with the fuel-saving systems, DHL Express UK hopes to take one step further towards improvements in drivers’ behaviours as well as reducing carbon emissions and general fuel consumptions.

“A key factor for DHL Express for the inclusion of telematics, which we see as a key enabler to achieving our long-term goal of reducing carbon emissions by 20% by 2020”, said Richard Crook, DHL Express UK and Ireland Director.

He added that “(…) through the use of telematics, we can not only improve our carbon efficiency but also encourage safer driving behaviours.”

Despite lacking investment by other large companies, Hitachi Commercial Vehicle Services divisional managing director, Jon Lawes, was confident about the future of the fleet industry:

“The technology is making a noticeable return in the fleet industry, and this new contract demonstrates the requirements for telematics perfectly.”

The completion date is set for February 2012.
